Walter Lee Akridge Jr.

Walter Lee Akridge Jr., 78, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away on September 15, 2026, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

Walt was born on October 14, 1947, in Lebanon, Missouri, to Walker Lee Akridge Sr. and Inez Lee (Busby) Akridge. Walter lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and deep love for those closest to him.

He was united in marriage to Penny Williams on October 6, 1966, in Chanute, Kansas. Penny preceded him in death in 2019.

Walter was a skilled carpenter who owned his own business for decades. He took great pride in his work and loved his job as a carpenter, building a life through steady hands, experience, and commitment to his craft. Beyond his work, he enjoyed fishing and racing cars, interests that brought him happiness throughout the years.

Above all else, Walter loved his family and especially adored his grandchildren. His greatest joy was found in the people he loved and the time he shared with them.

He is survived by his daughter, Misty Terrones, and her husband, Eddie, along with his grandchildren Sierra Drago, Slade Stowell, Trinity Sales, Kayla White, and Haley Lane. The love of his family will remain a lasting part of his memory, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Penny, his stepson, Tony Stowell, and his brother, Jim Wolridge.

Those who knew Walter will remember a man who worked hard and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. His memory will be cherished always.

Visitation will be held on October 16, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas 66720.

A private family burial will take place at Earlton Cemetery, Earlton, Kansas.
