Verna Lea Shafer

Verna Lea Shafer, 96 of Fredonia, Kansas passed away, Saturday, September 30. 2023 at Chanute, Kansas.

Verna Lea was born to Milton and Stella (Knox) Trimmell on June 16, 1927, in Coyville, Kansas. Verna Lea attended and graduated from Coyville High School.

Verna Lea was married to Charles “Shorty” Shafer, and he preceded her in death. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Fredonia, Kansas.

Verna Lea was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Verna Lea is survived by her children, Tami Pickell of Hutchinson, Minnesota and Kristi Bivens of Tulsa, Oklahoma, sister, Marjorie Stone of Derby, Kansas and nephew, Bert Trimmell of rural Coyville, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place with private services held at a later date under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
