Sharon Kay Matlock, born on January 18, 1944, in Erie Kansas, to Loren H. and Hazel V. (Lowe) Brooks, passed away unexpectedly on October 23, 2024, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. 

She touched the lives of many during her 80 years, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard, and family devotion. Sharon was a proud graduate of Humboldt High School, completing her education in 1962. She was united in marriage to Herbert Matlock Jr. on June 3, 1961, at the First Christian Church in Humboldt, Kansas. Their union was the foundation of a loving family that Sharon cherished throughout her life. 

For three decades, Sharon dedicated herself to her role as the Office Manager for Bridgewood Cabinetry, showcasing her commitment and professionalism in the workplace. Recently retired, she enjoyed reflecting on the countless relationships she built and the knowledge she imparted during her career, she loved to do crossword puzzles, and crocheting and liked to go to the casinos and socialize. Sharon was also an active member of the Daughter of the Nile in Pittsburgh Kansas, she attended several Shrine events with Herb and after his passing, She was also active in the Lady Elks Association, she did a lot of projects with the Lady Elks in the state level in Kansas, She is a Past State President first Lady 1997-1998 she always stood by Herb’s side. Herb and Sharon did a lot of major projects for the Kansas Elks for a lot of years. She was also in the Red Hats Club; she did a lot for many clubs in Kansas. Her family was her pride and joy. Sharon is survived by her children, Robert (Kelli) Matlock of Chanute, Kansas, Kay L. Young (Nick Harris) of Chanute, Kansas, and Chad E. Matlock of Erie, Kansas. She also leaves behind two beloved siblings, Merle Brooks of Chanute, Kansas, and Sandy Sturgem of Inman, Kansas. Sharon's legacy will continue through her grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy in her life. Bobby Matlock Chanute Jennifer(Mike)Letterman Chanute, David (Kaylee)Matlock Chanute, Curtis(Addie)Isaacs, Amanda(Caleb)Ironsyde Sedan Kansas Michael (Katelyn)Young Gas City., Two step-grandchildren Christopher(Mercedes)Myers, and Anthony Collins.And many greatgrandchildren Peyten, Lochlan Isaacs, Caleb, Kayreen, Pepper Ironsyde , Michael, and Charlie Young, Brock, Jensyn Matlock, Jayce, Everleigh, Tucker, Case Matlock, Titan, Trey, Camdem Bolden, Chloe, Emily, Julie, Luke Myers, and Addisyn Collins. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, brother Joe Brooks, and sister Marilyn Munger. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved her. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. in Chanute, Kansas. A funeral service honoring Sharon's life will be held on October 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM, also at Wickham Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery 17900 Trego Rd. Erie, Kansas. Sharon Kay Matlock's warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit will live on through the love she cultivated within her family and the many friendships she cherished throughout her remarkable life. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Elks Ketch and Shriners Hospital (Pittsburgh Shriners) and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home. Services are under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas 66720.
