Selma Lea McIntire, 93, of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Tuesday January, 25, 2022. Selma was born April 13, 1928 in Coyville, Kansas, to Everett Whitney and Alta Laverne (Bird) Hull. Selma graduated from Fredonia, High School in 1945; having skipped first grade, she was only 17 when she graduated. She attended college at Independence Junior College and KU, majoring in Journalism.
Selma married Arthur DeBell McIntire on November 23, 1950 in Fredonia, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.
Selma left Fredonia after graduation and she and her husband returned after they retired in 1990.
Selma enjoyed cooking, genealogy, history of Fredonia, and antique collecting. She owned the “Antique Store” in Fredonia. She was a member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church and the Needlecraft Club in Fredonia. Selma had an insatiable curiosity about a myriad of subjects and was thrilled by the world that the internet made available. She was one of the first 35 people in Fredonia to get internet access.
Selma is survived by her children: Marsha Lea Divilio, Norman, Oklahoma, Cassandra Lynn Edson, Fredonia, Kansas, Stuart Duncan McIntire, Germantown, Maryland, Mark Alexander McIntire, Martinez, Georgia, Julia Ellen Sullivan, Olney, Maryland and Amelia Jean Bristow, Neodesha, Kansas, 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, her parents, Everett and Alta, brother, Dwayne Ellis Hull, infant children, Barbara and Linda, grandchildren, Jennie Susan Edson and Christina Lea Divilio-Carter
Celebration of Life services will be Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, Visitation will be Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Wickham Family Funeral Home 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wilson County Historical Society and may be mailed or left at the funeral home.
