Ronald Dean Edson

Ronald Dean Edson (Ron), 80, passed away at home in Fredonia, KS on Saturday, August 8, 2026. He was born at home in Benton, KS on October 16, 1945, to parents Huber Edson and Audine (Hall) Edson. He married Cassandra Lynn McIntire on December 28, 1991, at the United Methodist Church in Benedict, KS.

Ron is survived by his wife, Cassandra, his daughter, Felicia Edson, of Paxico, KS, several brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as longtime friends Daryl and Brenda Dedman of Gillette, WY.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennie Edson, parents Huber and Audine Edson, stepmother, Lola Edson, sister, Arlene Edson, and brothers, Claude and Eugene (Eddy) Edson.

Ron was a 1963 graduate of Circle High School in Towanda, KS. After high school he enlisted in the Kansas National Guard, later also serving in a civilian capacity. He also worked as a mechanic for the Wichita Fire Department and in the oilfields in Wyoming before becoming a long-haul truck driver. He drove for many years both as a leased driver and owner-operator. Even after “retirement”, Ron continued driving, transporting vehicles for a car dealership.

Ron was a member of the Benton Christian Church and later joined the Fredonia First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hiking and trout fishing in the wilderness areas of Wyoming. He also enjoyed the challenge of learning about woodworking. Ron loved his pets, and his pets loved him. He was a man of few words, but great integrity and loyalty.

Cremation has taken place, with a graveside service planned for Friday, August 21, at 10 am at the Benton Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ron are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
