Roger Wambsganss, a devoted family man and farmer, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.
Roger was born on January 11, 1960, in Neodesha, Kansas the son of Merle Wambsganss and Patricia Shepherd Wambsganss, Roger lived a life characterized by hard work, honesty, and an unwavering integrity that he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A graduate of Fredonia High School's Class of 1978, Roger pursued further education at Independence Community College, where he earned his Associates of Arts degree in 1980. His passion and talent for welding led him to Coffeyville Vo-Tech, where he became a certified welder the same year. Roger’s skills in welding were put to good use when he was selected as an outstanding student to help with the welding in the gymnasium at Caney High School. His ingenuity extended beyond his profession, as he had a remarkable talent for repurposing old items into something new and useful.
As a Wilson County farmer and rancher, Roger embodied the spirit of dedication to his work and community. He was a member of the Old Iron Club, Wilson County Historical Society, and the Farm Bureau, which reflected his commitment to local heritage and agriculture. He was confirmed in the Methodist Church, upholding the values of his faith throughout his life.
On September 15, 1984, Roger married Betty Posch at the Fredonia Catholic Church, he is survived at home by his wife Betty, to whom he was married for 41 years.
Roger is remembered not only for his hard work but also for his deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty (Posch) Wambsganss, who stood alongside him through every challenge and triumph. Together, they raised three daughters: Tiffany (David) Piatt of Neodesha, Kansas, Tierra (Chad) Cook of Lenexa, Kansas, and Tianne Wambsganss of Neodesha, Kansas. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Maxson and McCoy Piatt. His mother, Patricia Wambsganss of Fredonia, Kansas, and sister, Rhonda (Vince) Weber of Fredonia, Kansas, are also left to cherish their memories of him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Wambsganss, who will undoubtedly be waiting to welcome him again.
Visitation to honor Roger will be held on Monday December 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas. A graveside service will take place at Fredonia City Cemetery on Tuesday December 23, 2025, at 10:30 AM.
Roger Wambsganss will be fondly remembered for his reserved nature, strength of character, and dedication to his family and community. His legacy will live on in the values he instilled in those he left behind.
