Randall "Randy" D. Smith, 69, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday October 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Randy was born on December 1, 1955, in Fredonia, Kansas at Dr. Rindt's office.
Randy had a deep-rooted connection to agriculture, dedicating his life to farming on a six-generation family farm. His passion for the land was evident not just in his everyday work but also in his unwavering commitment to his family’s farming legacy. For 28 years, he made significant contributions as a construction foreman for Tindle Construction in overseeing work with Cobalt Boats in Neodesha, further showcasing his talents and strong work ethic.
Randy was an alumnus of Fredonia High School, graduating as part of the class of 1973. His academic journey began at the Fall River School House, where he continued until the eighth grade, marking the start of a life filled with hard work and dedication. He also attended Coffeyville Community College graduating with an Associate's degree in Farm and Ranch Management.
Randy married Sandra "Sandy" Boicourt on June 7, 1975, in Fredonia Kansas. Celebrating together for 50 years.
Described by those who knew him as "ornery" with a distinctive ornery smile, Randy’s personality charmed everyone around him. He had a zest for life that radiated through his love for farming and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His fondness for these simple joys defined not only his character but also his legacy.
Randy was active in the Fall River United Methodist Church, Fall River Booster Club, Sponsor of Teen Town Dances, Farm Bureau's Young Farmers and Ranchers, and Elk County Rural Fire Department. Randy sat as the President of Radiant Electric Co-op Board and President of the Board of the Severy Co-op. Randy had a love of service to the 4-H serving as the Beef Superintendent for the Wilson County 4-H Fair and most notably a founding member and leader of the Busy Beavers 4-H Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra "Sandy," who stood by his side throughout their years together, and his cherished children, Chris and Crystal Smith of Culbertson, Nebraska, and Jacob and Kim Smith of Fredonia, Kansas. Randy took immense pride in being a grandfather to Clifford Hershberger, Owen Smith, Cheyenne Smith, and Shelby Smith. He was also a loyal companion to his beloved dog, Ella.
Randy's legacy will be a lasting one, reinforced by the accolades he earned through his hard work. Among his proudest accomplishments was receiving the Farm Bureau Century Farm Award, which celebrated years of dedication to agriculture and family heritage and the honorable distinction as a 4-H Legacy Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Neal and Wilma Wells Smith, as well as siblings Steve Smith and Judy Sondree. Randy’s spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him, and though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service, led by Gene Huston, at 2:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Fredonia, Kansas. Family and friends are welcome to join in honoring and remembering Randy’s remarkable life.
