OceanRae Anderson

December 19, 2005 — May 20, 2024

Chanute, Kansas

OceanRae Anderson, a radiant presence in every room she entered, passed away on May 20, 2024, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute Kansas at the age of 18. OceanRae's positive and courageous spirit shone brightly even in the face of adversity.

Born on December 19, 2005, in Elko, Nevada, OceanRae brought joy to her family from the very beginning. She was the beloved daughter of Shawn Anderson. At the age of 5, OceanRae was introduced to Brandy Hibbs who stepped into the role of her mother, friend, and supporter. At the time of her passing, OceanRae was a Junior at Chanute Senior High School.

OceanRae's memory will forever be cherished by her father, Shawn Anderson, and mother, Brandy Hibbs; her siblings Tucker Anderson, Pippa Anderson, Jagger Anderson, and Katlyn Gardner; as well as her grandparents Wayne Anderson, David Hibbs, Carolyn Hibbs, and her great grandmothers Alma Benard and Kathryn Hibbs, and many many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. OceanRae also had two amazing caregivers Brandee Rosenhoover and Marjorie Reynolds who impacted her life and gave her the ability to be independent.

She is preceded in death by her parental grandmother; Jana Anderson, paternal great-grandmother; Ruby Martinez, maternal grandfathers; Dean Hibbs, and Richard Benard.

OceanRae's warm nature extended to all those around her. She found solace in feeding the ducks at Santa Fe Lake, shopping for treasures big and small, enjoying music that spoke to her soul, and experiencing the simple pleasure of going through a car wash.

In facing her health challenges with unwavering bravery, OceanRae inspired all who knew her. Though she has departed this world after a long and courageous battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy her legacy of strength and positivity will continue to live on through the memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Survived by a loving family that will forever hold her dear in their hearts, OceanRae leaves behind beautiful reflections of kindness and love which she showered upon all she encountered.

May we remember OceanRae Anderson not for the moment of loss but for the countless moments of light and love she brought into our lives.
