Myles Victor Haspiel, born on July 23, 1946, in Maryland, to Marice and Leah (Singer) Haspiel, passed away at the age of 78, peacefully on May 5, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
He was a remarkable individual whose career as a talented Mechanical Engineer significantly contributed to the construction of VA Hospitals, providing essential services to countless veterans. Myles was an active member of his community, dedicating part of his life as a volunteer firefighter in Vidor, Texas, and Salt Rock, West Virginia. His commitment to service went beyond his professional endeavors, showcasing his passion for helping others and making a difference in the lives of those around him.
Myles cherished camping and spending quality time with his wife, Julie, and their children, who were the pride and joy of his life. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved fur child, Pugsly, who brought joy and companionship to his days. Myles graduated from James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia, in 1968, and began his college education in South Dakota, laying the groundwork for a successful engineering career.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Chun, whom he united in marriage with on April 23, 1982, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His legacy will also live on through his children: Jack Haspiel of Angeles City, Philippines, Bryna Haspiel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Samantha Haspiel of Chanute, Kansas. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Oliver Haspiel, Tony Alarcon, Aedan Alarcon, Jack Jr. Haspiel, Ethan Haspiel, Julie Anne Haspiel, Brandon Haspiel, and Shamiya Haspiel, along with numerous great-grandchildren.
Myles was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. His life was one of service, love, and dedication, and he will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
A Memorial Service to honor Myles is being planned for a later date. Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas 66720.
