Michael Wade Stilwell

Jul 5, 1959 — Oct 1, 2026

Erie, Kansas

Michael Wade Stilwell, 67, of Erie, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2026, at his residence. He was born on July 5, 1959, in Eureka, Kansas to Edward and Joyce (Rains) Stilwell.

Michael lived a full and engaged life marked by service, learning, and deep devotion to the people he loved. He graduated from high school in Beatrice, Nebraska, in 1977, and later graduated from college in Des Moines, Iowa, where he earned his Doctorate. That education led him into the medical field, where he practiced as a podiatrist. He served his country in the National Guard, a reflection of the steady sense of duty that remained with him throughout his life.

Those who knew Michael will remember him as a jolly, outgoing man who was also deeply humble. He loved being with others and brought warmth and good humor wherever he went.

Michael was united in marriage to Cynthia (Cindy) (Lewis) Stilwell on May 2, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death in May of this year.

Michael found joy in many simple and lasting pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling, and he especially treasured spending time with his family. He was an enthusiastic football fan who followed the Chiefs and Boise State, and he enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards. He also gave of his time as a volunteer at the Historical Society, a role that reflected both his generous spirit and his interest in the community around him.

Family meant a great deal to Michael. He loved spending time with his son, Josh, and had recently been eagerly looking forward to a trip they had planned together. He also shared a close bond with his sister Kelli Wells, and the two truly enjoyed spending time together often.

He is survived by his son, Josh Stilwell, and his wife, Heather, of Iola, Kansas, and a precious granddaughter, Josie Stilwell. He is also survived by his siblings, Kelli Wells, Mark Stilwell, Robin Weaver, and Gail Meier.

In addition to those who remain to cherish his memory, Michael leaves behind the love and remembrance of family and friends whose lives were brightened by his kindness, humor, and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Cindy Stilwell. Michael Wade Stilwell will be remembered for his humility, his laughter, his service to others, and the genuine joy he found in family, friendship, and everyday life.

His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Memorials are suggested to Joshua Stilwell to help defray funeral expenses.

A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest Avenue, Chanute, Kansas, 66720.
