Michael Dean Sexton, affectionately known as Mike, peacefully passed away on Saturday March 7, 2026, at KU Med in Kansas City. Born on March 18, 1952, in Neodesha, Kansas, Mike lived a life rich in experience and character, leaving behind a legacy cherished by those who knew him.
A graduate of Fredonia High School, Class of 1970, Mike embraced an adventurous spirit early in life. As an original hippie, he made his mark during the vibrant days of San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, where he lived for nearly two decades soaking in the culture and spirit of the era. This colorful chapter shaped much of his easy-going nature—Mike was known as a man who carried a smile with him, welcoming all with warmth and good humor.
Following his time in San Francisco, Mike dedicated his professional life to a career as a truck driver with FoodLiner.
Outside of work, Mike enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation. He was an avid golfer and found pleasure in gambling. Cookouts were another favored pastime.
Mike is survived by his brother-in-law, Tom Durham; nephew, Todd (Cindy) Durham; niece, Ann Durham-Jacobs; and cousins, Charlotte and Janet. They, along with many friends, will remember Mike for his kindness, his cheerful spirit, and the way he always made those around him feel at ease.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Earl and Dorothy (Strange) Sexton, and his siblings, Wayne Sexton and Betty Durham, whose memories he cherished deeply.
Mike's life was a testament to authenticity and kindness. His journey from Kansas to the cultural heart of the 60s, and back to his roots, reflects a man who lived fully and freely. Those who knew Mike will forever carry the imprint of his easy smile and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements under the direction of Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Fredonia.
