Michael Dean Kuder, a beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at Heritage Health Care in Chanute, Kansas, at the age of 79. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 28, 1946, he was known for his determination, work ethic, friendliness, and mischievous spirit. Mike, known as Mikey Dean, was the oldest of five children. At an early age, he was a very active child who attended school at Osawatomie, Paola, and Lane, Kansas. After attending Pittsburg State University on a track scholarship for one year, Mike returned to Osawatomie, Kansas, and married Bonnie Hase. They had three children, Kim, Robin, and Scott. That marriage ended in divorce. Mike met and married Dawn Kimball on December 27, 1974. They became the parents of Kristen and Matt.

Mike worked in various occupations. He spent the longest time with Slayman Beverage Company, where he worked for over 20 years. He retired in 2009. He spent his retirement years as a fixture at the local food bank, ultimately serving as the director. In his spare time, he enjoyed all sports. He ran 5k races, biked, played pick-up basketball, as well as played on both men’s and co-ed softball teams. He also refereed Osawatomie Recreation Basketball and Baseball.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Willard Dean, and his mother, Mary Alice (Lyons). Mike leaves cherished memories for his wife of 51 years, Dawn, his children and their spouses, Kim and Ray Reed, Robin and John Besser, Scott and Lisa Kuder, Kristen and Michael Lynch, and Matt and Niki Kuder; sisters Terry (Kenny) Turley, Sandy (Steve) Hughes, and Debby (John) Pool and brother Tom (Karen) Kuder. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mike will be remembered for his sense of humor, the many stories that would bring a smile to your face, and his strong work ethic. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
