Maxine Marie Boyd

Maxine Marie Boyd, 94 of Chanute, Kansas passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, at Heritage Health Care. 

She was born on April 16, 1931, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the 8th of 9 children, to William Brown and Alberta (Moore) Brown, she approached life with a spirit of dedication and joy, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by her family and friends. 

A graduate of Pittsburgh High School, Maxine furthered her education at San Francisco Community College, where she majored in Interior Design and minored in Business. Her professional journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to helping others, as she worked at Neosho County Hospital as a dedicated nurse and the first black certified EMT for Neosho County, positively impacting countless lives in her community.

 Later in life, she worked for KG&E as an Office Clerk and then transferred to Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant for several years until she retired. 

She was united in marriage to Robert D. Boyd, December 31,1950, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, with Pastor L.G. Cooper officiating this union.

 Maxine was not only devoted to her career but also found immense joy in raising her 5 children. She was actively involved in her church and dedicated her time to volunteering within the community. Her love for music was evident as she enjoyed playing the piano and organ, sharing her passion with those around her. Traveling and exploring her love for music was at the top of her list. 

Throughout her life, Maxine was proud to be a member of several organizations including OES, Daughter of Isis, BYPU, BTU, Eastern Star, and Deaconess. She was the Director of Jesus Helpers and a worthy matron of the Prince Hall of Eastern Star Fraternity; she exhibited leadership and a commitment to service that inspired many.

 Maxine is survived by her loved ones, including her sons, Dale Boyd, of Chanute, Kansas and Tony Boyd, of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter Sandra Turner (Paul), of Shawnee, Kansas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert D. Boyd, daughter Candace Boyd, son Robert D. Boyd II, grandson Anthony Turner, great-grandson Preston Gore, and her siblings Edward, Joseph, Jesse, Charles (Merlin), Kenneth, William (Billy), Evelyn, and Lucy.

Maxine Marie Boyd’s life was a testament to her resilience, love, and unwavering spirit and her love for the Lord. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Memorials in honor of Maxine are suggested to Wickham Family Funeral home to help with funeral expenses. 

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at First Baptist Church Good News Center, Chanute, Kansas. 

Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas. 

Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas.
