Marilyn L. Hook, a cherished educator, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday December 15, 2025, at Heritage Health Care Center, in Chanute Kansas.
She was born on December 9, 1946, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Orville and Mary (Allison) Sharp. She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, Danny Sharp.
Marilyn's educational journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to learning and teaching. A graduate of Ft. Scott High School, Class of 1964, she furthered her education at Ft. Scott Community College, earning an associate's degree in 1966. She then pursued her passion for teaching, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Pittsburg State University in 1968. Her career as a teacher and substitute teacher with the Olathe School District spanned 23 years. Upon retiring from education, she worked as a teller for 1st National Bank of Olathe for 10 years.
On June 27, 1970, Marilyn was united in marriage to Charles Victor (Vic) Hook, and he survives at their home.
Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of her life, manifesting in her long-standing involvement with various church communities. For nearly 40 years, Marilyn was a valued member of Faith Baptist Church in Olathe, KS, as well as the Faith Baptist Church in Sauk Centre, MN, for 6.5 years. Currently, she was part of the Church of Christ Family in Fredonia, KS.
Marilyn's dedication extended beyond her professional life; she was also deeply engaged in community activities, including being active in 4H for many years. Her love for engaging challenges was evident in her hobbies, which included solving word searches and Sudoku puzzles, reading, watching Jeopardy, and playing solitaire.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband, Vic Hook, of the home, and their daughter Kristi (Joe) DiVietro, of Fredonia, Kansas. She was a proud grandmother to granddaughters Kennedy and Jaclyn DiVietro, both of Fredonia, Kansas. Marilyn also leaves behind her sister Carolyn (Galen) Banks of Pratt, Kansas, she is also survived by sister-in-law Joyce Hook and brother-in-law Jim Towner Sr. and multiple nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Marilyn will be held on Saturday December 27, 2025, at Hiattville Cemetery in rural Bourbon County, KS, starting at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to share in visitation at the Church of Christ in Fredonia, KS, beginning at 3:00 PM and continuing until 5:00 PM on the same day.
As we remember Marilyn, we celebrate a life dedicated to her faith, her family, and her community, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
