Lucile Lema Edwards, 95, longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at her daughter"s home in Joplin, Missouri. She was born April 18, 1913 in Batesville, Arkansas. She moved to the Wilson County area when she was 18 years old. She worked for a few years at the Kansas Ammunition Plant and also owned and operated an antique store for several years in Fredonia. On August 21, 1931, she married Fred Alton Edwards. He preceded her in death March 21, 1992. She was a longtime member of the Bible Baptist Church in Fredonia. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, collecting antiques, and was an outstanding cook. Survivors include: Six Children: Donald Edwards (Merry) of Alba, MO Marie Beckham (Bill) of Wichita, KS Bill Edwards (Shirley) of Goodman, MO Helen Bruenn (Sidney) of Joplin, MO Ron Edwards of Joplin, MO Dennis Edwards (Cindy) of Gentry, AR Daughter-In-Law: Susan Edwards (wife of Kenneth) of Topeka, KS Twenty-nine grandchildren; fifty-five great grandchildren; and twenty-two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Louise Bales, and one son, Kenneth Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Bible Baptist Church in Fredonia with Pastor Jeremiah Baird officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in her name with the Bible Baptist Church and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
