Linda Jean Streets (née Strong) was born May 7, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John and Mabel Strong. She grew up in Highland alongside her brothers, Jack and her twin, Larry, in a family with deep Kansas roots. Her mother, Mabel, would later be honored through the naming of the Strong Complex at Kansas State University.
Linda attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, where, more importantly than earning her degree, she met Richard Reed Streets, the man who would become her husband and lifelong partner. After college, Linda spent time as a flight attendant with United Airlines before marrying Richard, a U.S. Naval officer.
Navy life took Linda and Richard to bases across the country before they eventually made their home in Slidell, Louisiana. Along the way, they built friendships wherever they landed and became enthusiastic square dancers, traveling to events and proving that a good partnership could navigate both Navy moves and a crowded dance floor.
Later, Linda worked in administration at Northshore Hospital in Slidell. Away from work, she loved puzzles, crosswords, reading, cooking, and gardening. She was also an extremely competitive card player. Anyone joining her for a game of 31 learned one important lesson: you did not want to be seated on Linda’s right.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mabel Strong; her older brother, Jack Strong; and her twin brother, Larry Strong.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Reed Streets; her children, Debbie Perry, Jo Ann Kenny, and Douglas Streets; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with a sixth soon to join the family.
Visitation will take place at Wickham Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 7, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. Linda will be laid to rest at the Altoona City Cemetery, in Altoona Kansas, returning to the state where her story began.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fredonia Flag Fund via Wickham Family Funeral Home; a fitting final nod to the cause that Linda and the Streets Family held dear.
Arrangements are under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 510 N. 7th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
