Leon Marcus Linnebur, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on Tuesday November 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on April 8, 1942, in Goddard, Kansas.
Leon was a graduate of Cherryvale High School, class of 1960. Following his high school education, he continued his studies at Independence Community College and Kansas State University, His commitment to his work was evident in farming and fabricating.
His service to his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969. Those experiences shaped his character and contributed to the profound respect he held for all those who serve in the armed forces.
Leon married Kathy Hanson, May 21, 1977, in Kansas City Kansas. They were married for 48 years.
A man of many passions, Leon found joy in farming and had a profound love for horses, which he enjoyed riding and training. His enthusiasm for jackpot roping brought him closer to the traditions of rural life that he cherished deeply.
Leon is survived by his loving wife, Kathy (Hanson) Linnebur, together, they nurtured a family that includes their children, Shane Linnebur and Tricia Linnebur, both of Cherryvale, Kansas. His siblings, Eldon Linnebur from Los Alamos, NM, Marilyn Saffle from Wichita, KS, Doris Scism from Parsons, KS, and Shelby Linnebur from Coffeyville, KS. Leon was the proud grandfather of Cody and Tevis Linnebur, and a cherished great-grandfather to Walker Linnebur.
He will be remembered not only for his deep affection for his family but also for the love he shared with those around him. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie (Simon) Linnebur; his son, Travis Linnebur; and siblings Imogene, Melvin, and Justin.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is being planned for a later date, allowing family and friends an opportunity to gather and honor Leon’s remarkable life. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched during his lifetime.
