Larry Eugene Shields

Larry Eugene Shields, 82, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Diversicare of Chanute following an unexpected illness. He was born on September 19, 1943, in Cherryvale, Kansas, to Franklin and Hazel Mable (Anderson) Shields.

As a skilled mechanic, he took pride in owning and operating his own business, where his expertise and hard work earned him the admiration of many. His time in the Army National Guard further exemplified his sense of duty and patriotism.

Beyond his professional achievements, Larry had a deep love for the simpler pleasures in life. Fishing provided him with moments of peace and reflection, while gardening was a passion that allowed him to nurture growth and beauty all around him.

Larry is survived by his son, Brian Shields, and his grandchildren: Jessica Shields, Brian Shields Jr., and Sierra Shields, who brought great joy and pride to his life. He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, who will remember him fondly. Larry’s family circle includes his brothers, Radford Shields and John Shields, along with John’s wife, Kathy.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice, his infant twin daughters, and several brothers and sisters, whose memories remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
