Larry J. Rash

Larry J. Rash, 79, of Cherryvale and Moline, Kansas passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 25, 2022 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin Missouri.

Larry Joe Rash was born on February 26, 1943 in Cherryvale, KS to Lloyd Lollar and Mary Louise (VanCleave) Rash. He graduated High School from Cherryvale in 1960 and attended Independence Community College where he played football for one year.

Larry worked at Heartland Cement Plant in Independence for many years and after retiring from the cement plant he went back and completed his Associates Degree at Independence Community College. During his retirement years he could be found on his farm tending to his horses and cattle. Often times he could also be found at the Alcoholics Annonymous Hall being the biggest supporter to people who were going through tough times and seeking sobriety.

On August 9, 1997, Larry was united in marriage to Janet J. Hogan, she survives at the home.

Larry enjoyed his horses, cattle, coyote hunting and deer hunting. His biggest enjoyment in life was, of course, spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them about his farm. His love for his family was very strong and unconditional.


Larry is survived by his wife, Janet, his children; Terri Rash, Coffeyville, Kansas, Christy Ballinger, Cherryvale, Kansas, Rae Lynn Rash, Cherryvale, Kansas, Michael (Venessa) Hogan, Moline, Kansas, Justin (Tabitha) Hogan, Winfield, Kansas. Siblings include Jerry Rash, Augusta, Kansas, Jon (Debie) Rash, Cherryvale, Kansas, Jack (Debbie) Rash, Cherryvale, Kansas, Bill (Cheryl) Rash, Independence, Kansas, Bruce (Jenny) Rash, Athens, Tennessee, Jayne (Frank) Knight, Cherryvale, Kansas, Marlene (Rex) Poole, St. Mary’s, Kansas. Grandchildren include Mariah Ballinger, Madison Ballinger of Cherryvale, Jermaine Williams of Topeks Kansas, Ashilyn Rash and Cooper Mayberry of Coffeyville, Kansas Haley Hogan, Ethan Hogan, Baylee Hogan of Moline Kansas, James Hogan, Amelia Hogan, Annabel Hogan of Winfield Kansas. Great-Granddaughter; Ada Williams. Sister in law Wilma Bell (Jim) Moline, KS. Brother in law JL Tunison Moline, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he treated as if they were his own.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Jim Rash, daughter; Sherri Rash.

Celebration of Life Services for Larry will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 1, 2022 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
