Joe D. Smith, 78, of rural Neodesha, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at his ranch with his wife of 59 years by his side.
Joe Daniel Smith was born, December 17, 1943, in Brownfield, Texas the son of Ira F. Smith and Etta Dell (Allen) Smith. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1961. He later attended Pittsburg State University for three years until his father passed away and he came back to help with the family ranch.
On August 17, 1963, in LaFontaine, Kansas he was united in marriage to Peggy Powers, and she survives at the home.
Joe was a self-employed rancher and worked for over 60 years until his ill health required him to retire.
He enjoyed flying his airplane, liked to watch television, ride horses and could be on the ornery side.
Survivors include his wife of the home, daughter, Lori Oneal of Fredonia, Kansas, daughter in law, Valerie Smith of rural Elk City, Kansas, good friend, Shane Billbe of Claremore, Oklahoma, brother, Kenneth Davis of Dallas, Texas, 4 grandchildren, Lindsey (He’lio) Ramos Freitas, Hayden, Heston and Holton Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Andy Smith and son in law, Ryan Oneal.
Private family services will be held under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
Interment will be held in Fredonia City Cemetery.
