Jeanne Marie Housel

Jeanne Marie (Humphrey) Housel, 74, born on April 2, 1949, in Pratt, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 after enduring and fighting small cell lung cancer. Any donations can be made to Coffeyville Friends of Animals in her name, or the charity of your choice. A short Celebration of LIfe service will be held Saturday, November 25, 10:30 a.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale.

She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, bright, and strong, family centered woman with a sense of humor. She loved animals and never failed to see the best in people. During her last days, she faced her battle with bravery and said “A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do”. She managed a large household, many unique life situations, supported and loved her hometown of Cherryvale always, helped run several companies, was a devoted and loving partner and friend, and assisted many people over the years. She kept her childlike wonder and enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed cooking, planting flowers, many types of crafts and art, laughter, and took great pleasure in the good fortune of others. She was a great mother and a friend to animals or anyone who needed help.

To her grandkids, she will be remembered as someone who loved them unconditionally. She taught them to play cards, dive, swim, do puzzles, ride bikes, and provided for them over and over again. She was a central figure in their lives. She always found a reason to laugh with her best friend and sister, Ann Bailey, whose kids she loved as her own.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Erma Fern (Fink) Humphrey and James Benjamin Humphrey, her siblings James Humphrey and Dorothy Ann (Humphrey) Bailey, her daughter Shannon Gragg, her stepson Mark Housel, her nephew Troy Bailey, her ex-husband John Housel, and Mike Housel, as well dear friends and other family members.

She is survived by Melissa Gragg, Jaden, Tariq, Sabrina, Merani, Shannon Nessie, and Zora Gragg, John Housel, Jr.and Janie Hugo, Jeff Housel, Kim Harris, Vicki Housel, Tim and Shana Housel, Chris and Sarah Harris, Miranda and Jeremie Reid, Shane and Maggie Harris, LJ Housel and Gabrielle Rodriguez, Clayton Buck, Chance Housel, Collin Housel, Sean Housel, Derrick Housel, Starr Housel, Mark Jr., Jessica Housel, and Brandin Housel, and all of their precious families. She is also survived by her dear niece Kim Bailey Holt and Alan, her children Ann Marie Leroy, Alexis and Peter Chard, Levi Leroy, and their wonderful families, Mariah Bailey, and others also near and dear, including nephew Jim and Donna Humphrey and family, nephew John and Tina Humphrey and family, close niece and couple Tonja Housel Wolford and Keith Wolford, their family, and her kids Jackson Putnam and Billy Putnam, and their growing families, as well as nephew Tony and Tamie and their family, dear friend and ex-husband Tom Gragg, and her other dear friends. She will always be missed.
