Janalee (Hosford) Davis, 97, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at Credo Senior Living, Chanute, KS. She was born January 1, 1928, in Enid, OK, to George and Jovena (Coyle) Hosford.
On April 3, 1946, she married the love of her life, Hal Davis. They celebrated 73 years of marriage before his passing in 2019. Two daughters were born to this union.
In 1958, she received a degree in Secondary Education (English and Home Economics) from Phillips University in Enid, Ok. Her teaching career spanned thirty years, 29 of which were at Chanute High School. She also sponsored the Future Homemakers Club (FHA) and National Honor Society. Janalee had a passion for teaching, which remained with her throughout her life. Her strong faith in Christ led her to teach a Bible as Literature class and to sponsor the Club for Christ at the high school until she retired in 1988.
Her special interests were sewing, quilting, photography, scrapbooking, making greeting cards, RV traveling, and reading and studying the Bible. She was a dog lover and always had at least one dog until she went to assisted living.
She was an active member of Living Word Assembly and Chanute Area Retired Teachers Association.
She was survived by her daughters, Adele Heffern and husband Bob, and Lynette Catterson and husband Jim, all of Chanute; four grandchildren: Amy Torkelson and husband Del of Wichita, Jenny Schoenberger and husband Jeff of Chanute, Shelly Kintzel and husband Jeremy of Jefferson City, MO, and Bryan Catterson and wife Suzanne of Chanute; eleven great-grandchildren: Teresa, Catherine, Gianna, and Philip Torkelson, Jayci Fauth and husband Drew, Mason Vietti, Micah and Theo Kintzel, Aiden, Owen, and Emma Catterson; and great-great-granddaughter Shay Fauth.
Janalee was preceded in death by her husband, Hal, her parents, and brother, George Junior Hosford.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Living Word Assembly at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 18. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall after the service.
