James Edward "Jim" Richardson Jr.

October 6, 1937 — March 26, 2026

Tacoma Washington

Jim Edward Richardson Jr., 88, of Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2026.

Jim was born on October 6, 1937, in rural Fredonia, Kansas, to Jim Edward Richardson Sr. and Maryetta Rose Conley Richardson. As the oldest of three, he carried great responsibility from a young age, beginning work at just seven years old, driving tractors and helping support his family.

Jim built a life rooted in hard work, honesty, integrity, resilience, and dedication. He spent many years in Seattle, Washington, where he worked for Boeing until his retirement in 1994. After retiring, he returned to Fredonia, Kansas, where he continued to serve his community…farming, serving as a County Commissioner, and later opening Neodesha Coin & Collectibles, which he operated for many years.

On July 3, 1991, Jim married Lucita Richardson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they shared 34 years of marriage.

In 2021, Jim moved to Tacoma, Washington, where he spent his final years surrounded by family. Over the last five years, his family came together to care for him with love and intention, especially in his final months, providing around-the-clock support to ensure he was safe, comfortable, and surrounded by loved ones.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lucita Richardson; his children, Marsha McAlerney, Dennis Richardson, Mike Richardson, Maria Cagatin, Noemi Cagatin-Porter, and Paul Cagatin; his brother Merle Richardson, and many extended family members and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Edward Richardson Sr. and Maryetta Rose Conley Richardson; his brother, Clinton Richardson; and his children, Janice Venable and Wanda Gettler.

Jim will be remembered for the life he built, the opportunities he provided, and the foundation he created for his family. He lived with honesty and integrity, values that continue to guide those who knew and loved him.

In his final days, he was gentle, loving, and at peace.
