Helga Waltraud Harris, age 84, of Cherryvale, Kansas, passed away on Saturday. July 11, 2026, at her home. She was born on February 28, 1942, in Erfurt, Germany, to Eugen Feil and Frida (Zander) Feil.

Helga’s early years were shaped in Germany, where she received her education in Heilbronn. Driven by a passion for culinary arts, she apprenticed as a chef at the esteemed Hotel Kronprinz in Heilbronn, Germany. Her career in the United States culminated in her role as a dietician at Morning Star Assisted Living in Fredonia, Kansas.

Helga was proud to serve as a military wife, supporting her husband Delbert V. Harris whom she married April 18,1964. Her family's well-being was always paramount, and she cherished her role as “Mom” above all other accomplishments. 

Helga embraced many interests throughout her life. She delighted in bringing color and imagination to her world through crafts, cross stitching, and creative pursuits. She was an avid reader and found beauty in nature, enjoying bird watching and loved swimming at Big Hill Lake. 

Helga is survived by her loving daughter, Meike Young; son, Roy Harris; and brother, Peter Feil. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delbert V. Harris; her father, Eugen Feil; her mother, Frida (Zander) Feil; and her cherished daughter, Lucienne "Pooh" Harris.

Cremation has taken place at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale, Kansas. Services will be held at a later date in Ulysses, Kansas.

Helga W. Harris leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication to family, a passion for her craft, and a kindness that touched many lives. Her memory remains a guiding light for all who knew her.
