Frances Helen Clifton

Frances Helen Clifton, 89, of Independence, Kansas, passed away on August 8, 2026, at Eagle Estates in Independence. 

Frances was born on March 13, 1937, to Franklin and Helen Palmer (Jaspering) in Elsberry, Missouri. 

She married Cecil Charles Clifton on September 3, 1960. They had three children. Frances was a homemaker, a Teacher’s Aide while her children were in grade school and later became a Preschool Teacher after her children were grown. After moving to Kansas, she became a part-time bank courier for First State Bank, which became Community National Bank & Trust and retired from that in 2013.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. When her health became bad in 2023, she was only able to complete puzzle books and watch videos, her favorite videos to watch were police car chases!! She loved the color red, cardinal birds, and hummingbirds. & roses.

Frances is survived by two brothers-in-law, James Clifton, Oroville, CA and Lee Tilford, Idaho: her daughter, Ruth & Les Goins, Thayer, KS; sons: Charles Clifton, Georgetown, IN and Paul Clifton, Independence, KS; grandchildren: Ryan & Alicia Goins, Darrin & Maria Goins, Brett & Tina Goins, Chadwick Clifton, Darrel & Becca Clifton, Caleb & Lydia Clifton, Cassandra & Oliver Sutherland, and Daniel Clifton; great-grandchildren: Devon & Kamillia Goins, Landyn & Kari Goins, Courtney Goins, Nichole Goins, Bradyn & Kristyn Goins, Kaylee Goins, Calissa Goins, Lydia Goins, Peyton Goins, Emma Goins, Evelyn Clifton and Henry Sutherland. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers-in-law, and her husband.

Frances gave her heart & life to Jesus at an early age & lived as a Christian the rest of her life. She loved God, her family, being with people, going to church, and church camps. She moved to Kansas to help take care of her mother until she died. She later moved to an apartment in Cherryvale, KS, and was constantly visiting and checking on her neighbors. She had a best friend, Renata, who lived across the street from her, and they enjoyed many times together.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 6PM to 8PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale, KS. Service will be held on August 15, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Wickham Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bible Holiness Church, Independence, Kansas or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
