Estel D. Joy, 74, a lifelong resident of the New Albany and Fredonia area, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia, Kansas. He was born January 26, 1934 in New Albany, the son of Paul Otto and Flossie Blanche (Penwell) Joy. He served in the United States Army 1952-1955. He was retired from the Wilson County Road Department, where he had been employed for 20 years. Mr. Joy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas. His hobbies included coin collecting; treasure hunting with his metal detector and fishing. His survivors include: Daughters: Gayle Fritzemeier of Chanute, KS Debra Davis of Andover, KS Son: Robert Joy of Fredonia, KS Brother: Paul Joy Jr. of Wellington, KS Sisters: Emma Sanderson of Humboldt, KS Anita Kaesmayer of Wichita, KS 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Angela Pope and Sandra Briley; three brothers, Herbert, Sherman and Bill; and an infant sister and infant brother. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Weakley Cemetery near New Albany with Pastor Jim Raymond officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Fort Riley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with Wilson County Veterans Monument and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
