Edith Gay Sweeney, born on April 29, 1949, in Beeson, West Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas.
On May 6, 2000, Edith Gay Akers was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Sweeney at The Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas. Bob survives at the home.
A devoted healthcare professional, Edith spent many years working at Golden Keys Nursing Home. Edith cherished her time spent at church. She was known to enjoy outings to eat, and she loved to clean and listen to the radio. Edith liked to cook, and she particularly excelled at preparing her beloved chicken and noodles and chili.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Sweeney, and her sister, Fonda Stengel. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dale and Letha (Cline) Akers, her siblings Edna Akers, Betty Akers, Douglas Akers, James Akers, Lloyd Akers, Kenny Akers, Frank Akers, and Alice Glatfelder.
A visitation to honor Edith will be held at The Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas, on Wednesday July 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location starting at 11:00 AM.
Edith Gay Sweeney will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on through the memories shared and the lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
