Dorothy Lee Wallace

Dorothy L. Wallace 88 passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at her home. Dorothy was born on August 16, 1935, in LaHarpe, KS, the daughter of Clarence Llyod and Melvia Mae Ransom.


On October 13, 1957, she was united in marriage to Willis Wayne Wallace in Newton, KS.

Dorothy and Wayne had made their home in Chanute since 1963. She was a retired registered nurse. Among her achievements, after becoming head nurse of the ER at the hospital in Chanute, she created the EMT program at NCCC and trained EMTs as one of the first female EMTs in the area. She later was a nurse for Dr. Haskins at Ashley Clinic and was a member of Big Creek Chapel UMC.


Dorothy was known for her love of crochet and sewing, creating numerous quilts throughout the years. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Dorothy and her husband Wayne were passionate about giving back to the community through volunteer work, truly understanding the meaning of giving.


Dorothy is survived by her husband, daughters; Lisa Schrant and husband Tim of Wichita, KS, Dana Morrison and friend Barry Wilson of Overbrook, KS, son Scott Wallace and wife Stephanie of Keeling, VA; grandchildren Carissa, Jason, Destiny, Sydney, Ciji, John-Michael. Jordan, Kaitlyn, Ashleigh, Cameron, nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Jane Davis of Bella Vista, AR.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy (Ransom) Gallaway, son Kyle Wayne Wallace, and grandson Garrett Wayne Morrison.


Cremation has been requested. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Big Creek Church and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Services are under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, KS.
