Doris Stitt

Following a brief illness, Doris (Brooks) Stitt, age 90, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas, on April 28, 2026.

1. Doris was born January 6, 1936, to Wesley and Florence Brooks of Erie, Kansas. She attended Erie High School.

In 1963, Doris married Wayne Stitt. They were married for 26 years. As a couple, they attended Rural Grange and belonged to the Do-Si-Do square dance group.

Doris was a member of Rebekah’s service organization and the Mothers Club. She enjoyed attending her weekly Bowling League and going to the Casino. Working crossword puzzles also brought her joy. Doris loved many animals, except snakes! Also, planting flowers, and weekend drives around Santa Fe Lake to see wildlife.

Doris loved dining at a good restaurant and visiting with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father. Brothers, Jack, Mervin, Richard, Dale, and Charles Brooks, and sister, LaVeta Baughn.

Doris is survived by her son, Rockford Stitt, Chanute, Kansas; sister, Eileen Petty, Gardner, Kansas; sister-in-law, Joyce Brooks, Siloam Springs, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Cheryl Matlock, Chanute, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

If you would like to donate in honor of Doris Stitt, her favorite organization for donation is Castaways Animal Shelter and Sanctuary, the Spay and Neuter Fund, Chanute, Kansas. Memorials can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, KS.
