Donald "Don" Ray Shields

July 29, 1936 — February 10, 2022

Donald Ray Shields, 85, of Chanute, KS., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Neosho Memorial Regional Center in Chanute, KS. Don was born to Franklin and Hazel (Anderson) Shields July 29, 1936, in Cherryvale, KS.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life Karen Shrum on April 30, 1964, in Gas City KS.
He was a custodian for First Baptist Church of Chanute, KS., until his retirement.

Don was an avid coon hunter and also enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and loved to sing in his younger years.

He is survived by his wife Karen of the home, five children: Craig Shields, and wife Melissa of Chanute KS, Melissa Thomas and husband Steven of Kansas City, KS, Linda Hottenstien and husband Paul of Chanute, KS, Kathy Vaughn of Melvern, KS, and LaDonna Watts of Humboldt, KS. Three brothers, Radford, Larry and Johnny Shields all of Chanute, KS, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Tricia Ostrander, and many brothers, and sisters.
Memorials are suggested to Cherry Street Youth Center and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Cremation has been requested.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, KS 66720.
