Darrell D. Thompson

Darrell D. Thompson, 85, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.

Darrell was born on May 5, 1937, in Superior, Nebraska to Leslie and Leona (Thieman) Thompson. Darrell graduated from Superior High School.

On September 11, 1981, in Glade, Kansas he was united in marriage to Jeanette Zimbelman and she survives at the home.

Darrell worked at Coffeyville Refinery for 34 years and retired in 1996.

Darrell was a member of Oklahoma Long Bowman Club and Coffeyville Gun Club.

Darrell’s nickname was “Oscar the Grouch”, and he had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, long bow hunting, bow shoots, camping, and traveling to the mountains. Darrell made his own long bows and arrows and ammunition.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Jeanette Thompson, his children, Kim Kalkman of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Danette (Gene) Johnson of Florissant, Colorado, Lisa Peterson of Wellington, Colorado, Lisa (Michael) Robinson of Springfield, Missouri, sister, Lesley Ainsworth of Loveland, Colorado, and 7 grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home. Private family services held at a later date.
