Bryan Phil Schlegel

Bryan Phil Schlegel, 59, a resident of rural Elk City, Kansas, formerly of Potwin, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. He was born March 23, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Alvin J. and Clara (Yost) Schlegel. Bryan was a 1967 graduate of Campus High School in Wichita and received a bachelor"s degree in Industrial Mechanics from Fort Hays State University in 1972. For the past seven years, he has been the boat tester for Cobalt Boats in Neodesha, Kansas. On January 15, 1971, in Mt. Hope, Kansas, he married Judy Hall. She survives at their home. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Judy, include: Two daughters: Jan Mills (Brian) of Eureka, Kansas Kristy Poe (Mark) of El Dorado, Kansas One son: Travis Schlegel (Brenda) of El Dorado, Kansas Three brothers: Jerry Schlegel (Marie) of Joplin, Missouri Dean Schlegel (Betty) of Wichita, Kansas A.J. Schlegel (Lana) of Rose Hill, Kansas One sister: Karen Armstrong (Red) of Wichita, Kansas Nine Grandchildren: Danielle, Rachel, Jessica and Teresa Mills Garrett Runnion Keagan and Breckyn Poe Lacie and Lara Schlegel He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Clara Schlegel and his mother-in-law, Hazel Hall. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Christ Church in Oak Manor, northwest of Fredonia. Burial will be in the Reece Cemetery in Reece, Kansas. Visitation at Timmons Funeral Home will be Tuesday, 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M., with the family receiving friends 5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Bryan"s name with the American Heart Association and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may be sent to www.timmonsfuneralhome.com.
