Bobby (Bob) Joe Johnson, 86, of Chanute, Kansas, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on September 26, 1939, in Rocky Comfort, Missouri, to Luther L. and Leota R. (Chewning) Johnson.
On September 7, 1965, Bob married Margaret Ann Quaintance at Ely, Nevada. They lived in Nevada, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas.
Bob was a graduate of Eldorado Springs High School in Missouri and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Bob worked various jobs during his lifetime and retired as the Building and Grounds Supervisor at Neosho County Community College.
Bob was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and was a talented taxidermist. He was a skilled pool shooter and won several pool league tournaments along with his "Ball Busters" teammates. He loved following the KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Bob's warmth and kindness were reflected in his relationships with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret, who provided unwavering support and companionship. Together, they cherished their daughters, Tina (Monty) Bailey, Julie Walls and partner, Reggie Chappell, and Lori Tinsley and partner, Mark Greve, and one sister, Delores (Gary) Gray.
Bob also delighted in the joy of being a grandfather to his grandchildren, including Haley Carter and partner, Mark Knapp, Chelsie (Jeremy) Wheeler, Blake Bailey, and Kayla (Cody) Markham, Cedric (Sarah) Walls, Cornell (Chelsey) Walls, Jerrod (Tessa) Walls, Chantae Walls, Tyrah (Dylan) Pomeroy, Tyrone Walls, Conley Henderson, and Zachary Henderson. In addition, he proudly embraced his 24 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and purpose to his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister named Barbara Simrill, and his brother, Kenneth Johnson. He also mourned the loss of his great-grandson, Drake Walls, who will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family.
As we remember Bobby (Bob) Johnson, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, dedication, and cherished memories. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Cremation has been requested. Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
