Betty Pauline Hoff, 93 of Fredonia, Kansas passed away on April 18, 2023, at Fredonia Regional
Hospital. Betty was born on April 11, 1930, to Fred and Gladys Marie (Mattix) Hasty in
Independence, Kansas. Betty graduated from Dodge City High School in 1948. Betty was united.
in marriage to Elwin Wayne Hoff on December 27, 1958. They were married for 61 years until
Elwin’s passing on March 1, 2020. To this union were born three daughters: Jennifer, Dixie, and
Janice.
In addition to being a homemaker, Betty worked as a bank teller in Dodge City, Kansas, taught.
one year in a one room schoolhouse in Sublette, Kansas grades First through Eighth, worked at
McClellan’s Dime Store and worked as a food counter server in a drug store in Dodge City,
Kansas. Betty was a member of the Church of Christ of Neodesha, Kansas, where she was a
Bible School Teacher for many years. She served as a 4-H project leader, was a member of Farm
Bureau, Radiant Electric Co-Op (4 Rivers) and SEK (Fredonia,) Co-Op.
Betty enjoyed bird watching, sewing, cooking, gardening, and evening walks. She will be
remembered for being a kindhearted, compassionate woman who would do anything for
someone in need. Betty could turn leftovers into a meal fit for royalty and was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Elwin, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gladys
Hasty, brother, Robert Hasty, sisters, Julie Ann Hasty, Laura Ruth (Hasty) Nace, half-sister, Ella
Mae (Mattix) Clifford, grandson, Dillon Denton and great-grandchild, Gabriel Reese.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Raymond) Benshoof, Layton, Utah, Dixie (Dallas)
Denton, Harker Heights, Texas and Janice (John) Reese, Neodesha, Kansas, sister, Emma
Wilson, Montrose, Colorado, Grandchildren; Matthew (Seria) Benshoof, Janelle Benshoof,
Michael Benshoof, Abigail Benshoof, David Denton, Daniel Denton, Denver Denton, James
(Naomi) Reese, Julia Reese, Jadin Reese and John Elwin Reese, Great-Grandchildren; Cloie,
Adalind, Theodore “Teddy” Benshoof, and Raelynn Callen.
Visitation will be Saturday April 29, 2023, at 9:30am at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N.
7th, Fredonia, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will follow visitation at 10:30am at the funeral
home. Graveside service will be held following the Celebration of Life at the Fredonia Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to “In Search of the Lord’s Way” program and may be left at or mailed
to Wickham Funeral Home.
