Betty Ann Coester

Betty Ann Coester, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, in Chanute, Kansas, at the age of 91. Born on April 24, 1935, in Walnut, Kansas, to Oren (Skinny)A. Baugh and Etta L. (Burger) Baugh, she was a cherished member of the community whose generosity, warmth, and enduring spirit touched all.

Betty’s journey began in Walnut, where she graduated from high school in 1953. From a young age, she exhibited a deep compassion for others, a quality that inspired her to pursue a call to service. In 1956, she completed her studies at Mt. Carmel Nursing School in Pittsburg, Kansas, becoming a Registered Nurse. Over the course of her accomplished career, Betty devoted herself to helping families, delivering babies, and providing expert care with kindness and grace. Her work in nursing enriched many lives and became an enduring testament to her dedication and empathy.

Family was at the very heart of Betty’s life. She was blessed with the abiding love of her husband, Don Coester, who preceded her in death. Betty’s loving legacy continues through her devoted children: Nancy DeLange (Pat), Steve Coester, Bonnie Guinotte (Kevin), and Missi Allen (Kenny), as well as her 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Virginia Kay Myers, and many nieces and nephews. Her memory lives on in the countless stories, cherished traditions, and strong values she instilled in her family.

Betty’s life was not untouched by sorrow; she mourned the loss of her son Kevin Ray Coester, grandson Kolter DeLange, and granddaughter Alyssa Allen, as well as her brother Howard Baugh and sister Norma Jean McMurry, and her parents Oren (Skinny) A Baugh and Etta L Baugh, along with Steve’s fiancé, Cindy Garland. Through her resilience and faith, she carried on, offering comfort and support to her family and friends during their own times of need.

A woman of abundant interests and talents, Betty delighted in the simple joys of life. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, finding creative expression in her handmade works that will be treasured for generations. Always enjoying a good bargain, she could often be found shopping at garage sales, never losing her knack for finding hidden treasures. Betty cherished her time with her grandchildren, taking immense pride and joy in their company. Her faith led her to be an active member of her church community, where she formed many dear friendships and contributed generously of her time and spirit.

Those who knew Betty will fondly remember her sense of humor, especially when playing cards and marbles, where she was notorious for her playful "cheating." These moments brought laughter and created memories that will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

Betty Ann Coester’s life was marked by devotion: to her profession, her faith, her family, and her friends. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support have left a legacy that will endure for generations.

Memorials are suggested to the Kolter DeLange Memorial Scholarship Fund or Westview Baptist Church and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church, 1415 S. Plummer Ave., Chanute, Kansas 66720.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Burial will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.
