AUGUST "AUGIE" SCHAPLOWSKYAugust "Augie" Schaplowsky, 85, of Cherryvale, Kansas"passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.August "Augie" Schaplowsky was born January 31, 1930, in Andale, Kansas the son of August G. Schaplowsky and Mary (Armbruster) Schaplowsky. He graduated from Benton High School in 1948 and later graduated from Independence Community College. He also received correspondence classes in accounting to further his education.On November 24, 1951, in Cherryvale, he was united in marriage to Betty Molidor, and she survives at the home.Augie served with the United States Army as a corporal in the Counter Intelligence Corp. during the Korean War from 1952 until being honorably discharged in 1954.He went to work for the cement plant in Independence holding various positions and worked his way up into the Accounting Department. He retired from the cement plant after 42 years in 1991 and was plant supervisor in the Accounting Department when he retired.Augie loved playing and watching sports. He coached his girls for many years in softball and liked to bowl.He will be remembered for being a kind giving person with a good sense of humor, and he loved being around his family.Augie was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, past Treasurer of the Cherryvale Knights of Columbus, past Treasurer of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Bingo, past Treasurer for the Wednesday Night Bowling League and served on the Cherryvale School Board of Education.Survivors include his wife Betty of the home, children, Karen Carpino and her husband Randy of Paragould, Arkansas; Gary Schaplowsky and his wife Mary of Coffeyville, Kansas; Terry Schaplowsky of Lawrence, Kansas; Cindy Hill and her late husband Ted of Parsons, Kansas; Tammy Blaich and her husband Steve of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother, Robert Schaplowsky of Cocoa Beach, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.Mass of Christian Burial Rites"will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Andrew Heiman, celebrant.Reciting of the rosary will be held 7:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.Friends may sign the register book from 12Noon until 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 15, 2015,"at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas." The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the church.Interment will follow the mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery with military rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.Memorial remembrances are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Cherryvale Knights of Columbus, and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
