WILLIAM LEWIS ROBINSONWilliam Lewis Robinson was born January 13, 1919, in Sedan, Kansas to parents Jessie Lewis Robinson and Edwin Twiss Robinson. A gentle soul with kind words for all, he passed quietly on March 8, 2014, in Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita of natural causes." He had resided in recent years at Larksfield Place Retirement Community in Wichita.The Robinson family moved to Independence in 1927; he graduated from Independence High School in 1937 and attended Independence Junior College." He took great pride in his military service; he was a member of the Army Air Corps in World War II, concluding with service in the Panama Canal Zone. "His only sibling, Edwin Robinson, was killed in World War II during a bombing run over France." After discharge from service, he became a partner with his father in the Robinson Supply Company in Independence." He later became a revenue agent for the State of Kansas, responsible for Montgomery, Wilson and Elk counties." He retired from State employment in 1985.He was married for 48 years to Lillian Virginia Robinson, who passed away in 1992." He is survived by two sons, William Bruce Robinson of Tacoma, Washington and Edwin Thomas Robinson of Long Beach, California." He is also survived by his companion and close friend Thelma Schultz of Independence.He cared deeply about the City of Independence and the State of Kansas." He was a life member of the BPO Elks and he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans." He was a member for many years of the First United Methodist Church of Independence.Graveside Services with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence under the direction of Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale." The Rev. D. J. Williamston of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.The family invites memorials to either the Disabled American Veterans or the Friends of the Independence Public Library and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas" 67335
