William "Bill" E. Blaes

William E. “Bill” Blaes, 84, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at his home.
William E. Blaes was born July 29, 1934 in Parsons, Kansas the son of Leo V. Blaes and Helen A. (Miller) Blaes. He grew up in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1953.
On June 12, 1965 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale he was united in marriage to Jenny L. Bernd and she survives at the home.
Bill enlisted with the United States Army and served from active duty from 1956 until 1958. He was later in the Army Reserve Unit until being honorably discharged in 1962.
Bill was a farmer and lived in Cherryvale his entire lifetime.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1186 in Independence, Kansas, American Legion, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cherryvale Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree Assembly #0281 Joyce Kilmer and past member of the Cherryvale FFA Alumni.
Survivors include his wife Jenny of the home, children, Beverly A. Bieber and her husband Jeffrey of Joplin, Missouri, Charles “Chuck” E. Blaes and his wife Krista of Wichita, Kansas, siblings, Helen Marie Heady of Parsons, Kansas, Raymond Blaes of Cherryvale, Kansas, Harriett Johnson of Des Plaines, Illinois, Coleen LaForge of Independence, Kansas, grandchildren, Andrew Bieber of Joplin, Missouri and Christian Joseph Blaes of Wichita, Kansas,
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marjorie Burns, brothers, Donald and Robert Blaes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M following the visitation Friday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Detail.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Knights of Columbus or Cherryvale Alumni Association and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
