Willard Lee Carter, 86, a resident of rural Altoona, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Via Christi St. Francis Burn Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born October 10, 1923, in rural Wilson County, the son of Max and Alice Faye (Wiltse) Carter. Willard graduated from Altoona High School in 1942. On April 23, 1948, in rural Altoona, he married Lucile Myers. She survives at their home. Willard was an elder and treasurer of the Altoona Christian Church. He was a farmer until his retirement in 1998 and a member of the National Farmers Organization, where he served as president of the local chapter for a number of years, and the K.O.E.R.A. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Lucile, include: Six children: Steven (Lindsey) Carter of Midland, TX Carol (Jeff) Walker of Olathe, KS Dwight (Janice) Carter of Augusta, KS Julie (Tom) Boren of El Dorado, KS Neil (Mary) Carter of Delano, MN Lyle (Jayne) Carter of Sartell, MN Fourteen grandchildren: Rebekah (Shawn) Powell, Christa Carter, Paula (Ben) Koca, Tim (Lauren) Carter, Melody Walker, Jason Walker, Lisa (Luke) Wayland, Chad Carter, Melanie (Barry) Brown, Natalie (P.J.) Faulk, Dana Carter, Alex Carter, Megan Carter, Beth Carter. Six great grandchildren: Claire Koca, Tyler Thompson, Aiden Brown, Miranda Brown, Caitlin Faulk, Paige Faulk. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Wilma Geer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Altoona Christian Church. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. No visitation is planned, but friends may sign the register book at the funeral home. Memorials have been established in Willard"s name with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
