Wayne Philpot

John "Wayne" Philpot, 88, a resident of Carson City, Nevada, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, following a short illness. He was born July 20, 1919 in Fredonia, one of nine children, to John Harvey and Olive (Dice) Philpot. Wayne graduated from Fredonia High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War and proudly served as Chief of Boat for the USS Rock before retiring in 1967. On February 14, 1965 in San Diego, California, he married Ruth Brown. He and Ruth lived in Fredonia from 1991-1998 before returning to the west coast to retire in Carson City. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Ruth of Carson City, include: Ruth"s children: Charlene Robinson and Charlie Brown Wayne"s only son: John Michael Philpot and his wife Cathy of Pittsburg, KS Five Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren One living brother: Donald Dean Philpot and his wife Kathy of San Diego, CA, formerly of Fredonia Numerous nieces and nephews including: Cris and Diane Leonard of Parsons, KS Priscilla and Jim Kater of Branson, MO Trisha and Donald Bryant of Independence, KS Marsha Ardrey of Conroe, TX Jan and Gary Bruce of Edmond, OK Fabia Mrofeza of Colorado Springs, CO Wayne was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Philpot Stover, Phyllis Jean Philpot, Helen Eileene Philpot, Harriett Philpot Spear, Lois Philpot Leonard, Patsy Philpot Ardrey, and Rebekah Philpot Ray. Memorial graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family has requested that Mr. Philpot be remembered through contributions in his name to the Salvation Army. Family condolences may be sent through www.timmonsfuneralhome.com.
