Virda Louise King

October 18, 1921 — August 9, 2015

Virda Louise King, 93, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. She was born October 18, 1921 in Altoona, Kansas, the daughter of LeRoy and Lena (Varner) Lewellen. She was a graduate of Benedict High School. Virda retired in 1982 from Jostens/American Yearbook, where she had been a quality inspector. On August 31, 1942 in Independence, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Lloyd E. King. He preceded her in death. Virda was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia. She had been active in area quilt clubs and was a volunteer at the Christian Church Thrift Shop. Virda"s survivors include: Nieces: Pamela D. Cole of Hoyt, KS Sherry Z. Welch of Neosho, MO Nephew: Ronnie Lewis of Lincoln, NE Her parents, LeRoy and Lena Lewellen and sisters, Virginia Lewis and Marjorie Cook also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Timmons Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her name with the First Christian Church and contributions can be sent to or left with the funeral home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
