Viola Alice Key, 68, resident of Chanute, Kansas, formerly of Hamilton, Kansas, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at Guest Home Estates III in Chanute. She was born May 11, 1939 in Chanute, the daughter of Roy and Nellie (Williams) Hawes. On February 23, 1963 in Independence, Kansas, she married Bobby R. Key. She spent her life caring for her family and providing a loving home. Mr. Key preceded her in death June 2, 2001. Mrs. Key"s survivors include: Two sons: Bobby Key Jr. of Fort Scott, Kansas Floyd Key of Galesburg, Illinois Three daughters: Carol Selby of Hamilton, Kansas Della Hunter of Valley Center, Kansas Ellen Thron of Erie, Kansas Two brothers: Billy Hawes of Chanute, Kansas Robert Hawes of Chanute, Kansas Two sisters: Kathryn Purdy of Chanute, Kansas Doris Bradfield of Humboldt, Kansas 15 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Aaron Hawes; her grandson, Dustin Hawes; and three brothers, Alfred, Leroy and Tommy Hawes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ray Whitlock of Southerncare Hospice officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Timmons Funeral Home with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in her name with Guest Home Estates III and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
