Verda Loomis

Verda Loomis, 101 years, 5 months and 5 days old, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Monday, May 26, 2014 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. She was born December 21, 1912 in Fredonia, the daughter of Clark Andrew and Ila Mae (Polson) Sierman. She was a homemaker. On October 14, 1934 in Fredonia, Verda was united in marriage to Walter L. Loomis. He preceded her in death in February 27, 1986. Verda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia where she was the nursery attendant for 18 years. She also volunteered in two church quilting groups as well as the Gold Dust Quilters. Verda was a project leader for the Homebuilders 4-H and participated in the Baker Valley Home Demonstration Unit. Verda"s survivors include: Children: Emma & David Crites of Fredonia, KS Harold Loomis of Wichita, KS Larry Loomis of Henderson, NV Jim Loomis of Fredonia, KS Carolyn & LaVern Swenson of Haysville, KS Sister In Law: Peggy Sierman of Fredonia, KS Six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren Her parents and brothers, Harold and Delmont Sierman also preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Weakley Cemetery near New Albany, Kansas, with Rev. Carl Ellis of the First United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial has been established in Verda"s name with the First United Methodist Church and The Wilson County Historical Society. Contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
