Sarah "Isabel" Fortner

Sarah Isabel Fortner, 98, lifelong resident of Fredonia, passed away October 23, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Spring Hill, KS. Isabel was born on her parents farm northwest of Coyville, KS to John LeRoy and May (Harris) Johnson on June 26, 1916. She attended the Ross Branch School northwest of Coyville. On September 5, 1937 she married Frank Wiley Fortner at her parents" home, and raised a family in rural Fredonia area. Isabel was a lifelong loving mother, wife, grandmother, and devoted health caregiver retiring from the Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong member of the Pilgrim Holiness and Calvary Wesleyan churches in Fredonia. Isabel is survived by two sons " Leroy Fortner and wife Alice, and Jim Fortner and wife Pegi (Gillen), all of Lincoln, NE, and daughter Marie Keeton and husband Joe of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl Johnson and Albert Johnson, husband Wiley, sons Clifford Fortner and Frank Fortner, and one grandchild Cheryl (Fortner) Harris. Visitation will be Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 6pm to 7:30pm at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia. Services will be held at 10:30am Monday October 27, 2014 at Timmons Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Isabel's name with the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
