R. ARTHUR "ART" GROVE, JR.R. Arthur "Art" Grove, Jr., 81, of Cherryvale passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Labette Medical Center in Parsons, Kansas.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., "Monday, February 10, 2014 at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas with Reverend Susan Brown, officiating." Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, Kansas." Military Honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard." Masonic Burial Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Jerry Allison.Friends may sign the register book from 12Noon until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Wickham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friend from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Shriner"s Crippled Children Foundation and they may be mailed or left at Wickham Family Funeral Home.R. Arthur "Art" Grove, Jr. was born October 16, 1932 in Cherokee County, Kansas the son of Ralph Arthur Grove, Sr. and Donna (Cooper) Grove." He grew up in and McCune, Kansas graduating from McCune High School." He served as an MP in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.In December 1953, while stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina he met Louise Strickland." They married June 3, 1954 in Dillon, South Carolina." Upon his honorable discharge from the Army he returned to Cherryvale to continue his work with KGE." He retired from KGE in 1990 after 39 years with them where he worked as a lineman, agent and foreman.He was a member of the Fortitude Lodge #107 in Independence, KS, Mirza Shrine Center and Mirza Legion of Honor in Pittsburg, KS, Mirza MG Unit, Independence Shrine Club, Coffeyville Shrine Club, Chanute Shrine Club, Eva Chapter #18 Eastern Star in Independence where he was Past Patron." He was also a member of the Cherryvale United Methodist Church.Art loved to fish, camp and was a good a woodworking." He had a nickname as "Grumpy" and a favorite saying as "Grumpy as Ever."He is survived by Louise of the home, son Earl (Anita) of Coffeyville, KS, son Paul (friend Tina) of Cherryvale, daughter Gina (Bill) of Cherryvale, nine grandchildren, Christopher (Abbey) Grove Esq. of Columbus, OH, Adam Grove of Phoenix, AZ, Megan (fianc" JJ Overall) Grove of Cherryvale, Jonathon (Teryn) Booe of Cherryvale, Kenan (Taylor) Booe of Webb City, MO, Micah (fianc" Sarah Beth Regouby) Booe of Joplin, MO, Kimberly Booe of Cherryvale, Jesse and Mary Beth Booe of Cherryvale and 4 great grandchildren." He was preceded in death by his parents.
