Patricia Gail Kimzey

August 13, 1939 — April 2, 2018

Patricia Gail McCabe Kimzey passed from this life on April 2, 2018 in Wamego, Kansas. She was born on August 13, 1939 in Montgomery County, KS to Meredith S. and Esther Norene (Polly) McGinnis McCabe. She lived in rural Montgomery County for almost all of her 78 years, other than a 2 year sojourn in Texas, and her final 2 years, spent in Wamego, KS.

Gail thrived in many ways in her life, including her beautiful piano-playing and her singing voice. Her solo vocals were used in church and community settings; she taught music at the Lafontaine Elementary School until it closed its doors. She was a member of the Fredonia Music Club, and taught piano lessons to dozens of children over decades. She was a frequent music judge at the county level for 4-H Days competitions.

Gail was known for her delicious cooking and baking skills. And she delighted to cook for people in order to show them her love. From family to farm hands to cattle judging teams using the Kim-Mac Farm animals for their practice, there was always plenty of tasty food to go around. She shared her love of cooking and baking, as well as sewing, with 4-H children and youth, serving as a leader for many years, and also passing on those skills to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gail cooked much of her country fare out of the garden that she skillfully tended. One of her favorite places was out in the rows of delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers. She canned and froze produce that carried the family throughout the year.

She invested in the lives of other people throughout her life, from serving in various ways at her church, at church camp, and helping neighbors, friends and family, offering a room to several young men who needed a place to stay. She taught Sunday School and women’s Bible study for many years and enjoyed sharing her love for God with young and old.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, David L. Kimzey in 2000, by her parents and her parents-in-law.

She is survived by her three children and their families: Beth (& Pat) Green of Wamego, KS, Greg (& Sue) Kimzey of Fredonia, KS, Sandra (& John) Wimbish of Raleigh, NC.
Her grandchildren are Jennie Moran, Joel Green, Emily Wimbish, David Wimbish, Robert Wimbish, Christiane Wimbish, Leah Clawson, Zachariah Kimzey, Maria Kimzey.
Great-grandchildren: Haley Moran, Havana Moran, Hayden Moran, Josie Green, Oakley Green, Emerson Green, Leon Green, Parker Green.
She is also survived by her sister, Diane Linn of Independence, KS and her brother, Randy McCabe of Elk City, KS.
