Oral Dee Borland

July 9, 1908 — August 11, 2007

Oral Dee Borland, 99, a resident of rural Altoona, and more recently of Golden Living Center in Fredonia, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia, Kansas. She was born July 9, 1908 in Fairland, Oklahoma, the daughter of William and Molly Rich. She started teaching in one room school houses in Kansas. She also taught at Butts School and was a sixth grade teacher at Lincoln School for over 15 years. She was married to Gilbert Borland on June 18, 1937 in California. He preceded her in death May 29, 1988. She was a longtime member of The Kansas Federation of Women"s Democratic Clubs, Delta Kappa Gamma, and was an alumni of Pittsburg State College. She has been a leader in 4-H clubs for many years and was the Grand Matron of Altoona O.E.S. Her Survivors include: One Daughter: Lois Lynne Spohn of Belle Haven, VA Two Grandchildren: Phillip Spohn and spouse Meg of Denver CO Kristen Runk and spouse Brian of Lawrence KS Six Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ozell McDaniel and Hathaway Williams and three brothers William, Sam and Frank Rich. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Myers officiating. Family will be greeting friends on Tuesday August 14 from 5-7 PM. Burial will be in the Neosho County Cemetery in Chanute, Kansas. Family condolences may be sent to www.timmonsfuneralhome.com.
