The beloved wife of Alfred P. White, Nelda J. White, 90, a resident of Fredonia, formerly of Wichita, died in the early hours of Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha due to complications she developed after a minor surgery. She was born July 18, 1921 in Independence, Kansas, the daughter of Walter Franklin and Ferne (McKay) Head. In addition to being a homemaker, Nelda also worked as a security guard for two years and as a seamstress for Alco Interiors for five years, retiring in 1986. On June 15, 1968, Nelda married Alfred P. White. He survives at their home in Fredonia. Nelda was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a very happy "NANA". Survivors, in addition to her husband, Alfred, include: One daughter: Martha (Jose) Baca of Fredonia, KS One son: Stephen (Linda) Smith of Fredonia, KS One sister: Barbara George of Sedalia, MO Ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren also survive. Her parents; three brothers; and son, Bobbie J. Green preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Fredonia City Cemetery with Pastor Ray Pile of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, 5:00-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Nelda"s name with the Wilson Medical Center Foundation and donations may be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
