Morris L. Forsythe

Morris L. Forsythe, 102, long time resident of Altoona, Kansas, passed away, Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Morningstar Care Home in Fredonia, Kanas.

Morris was born on February 28, 1919, to Hugh and Maude (West) Forsythe Northwest of Fredonia, Kansas.

Morris completed 12 years of education. Morris served in the United States Army from March 18, 1941, through April 26, 1946. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Ribbon.

Morris married, Dorothy Gentry on April 17, 1949, in Neodesha, Kansas. They were married for 52 years until her death on March 9, 2001.

Morris was self-employed as a plumber for 40 years. He served as the Altoona Fire Chief for 32 years, was the President of the Altoona Cemetery Board, served as the Altoona Christian Church’s Board Chairman, was on the Altoona School board for 11 years and the Altoona City Council for 9 years.

He is survived by son, Michael (Mary Ann) Forsythe of Frontenac, Kansas, 2 grandchildren, Megan (Doug) Hague, Garrett (Lindsey) Forsythe, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Maude, wife, Dorothy, brothers, Herbert Forsythe, Clayton Forsythe, Bill Forsythe and Max Forsythe and sister, Martha (Forsythe) Meriwether.

The family will welcome friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Saturday at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday at Wickham Family Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Altoona Cemetery, Altoona, Kansas.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Altoona Fire Department or Altoona Cemetery, and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
