MICHAEL D. NELSONMichael Dean Nelson, 57, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away at 11:15 A.M. Thursday, April 14, 2016 with his family by his side at his home.Cremation has taken place under the direction of Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale. Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.Mike was born June 6, 1958 in Independence, Kansas the son of Robert L. Nelson and Jeannie (Green) Nelson. He grew up in Southern California and attended Savannah High School. He was united in marriage to Lori Nelson and they later divorced.Mike was a construction worker by trade and was involved in the construction of many different buildings around Southeast Kansas. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar and performed in bands with his brother Aaron. He also enjoyed fishing and was a loyal Raiders fan as well as an avid Jayhawks fan. You would seldom see Mike without some form of memorabilia supporting his favorite teams. He was in the Jaycees, forming a local chapter in Cherryvale.Mike is survived by his parents, brother Aaron Nelson of Cherryvale, sister, Valarie Nelson of Cherryvale, son Nik Nelson of Cherryvale, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.Mike loved God, his family, his friends and his car and will be missed very much.
